HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM UMBRELLA
EVELINA BAZZO, CHIARA BAZZO, ANNA CIOFFI, CAMILLA TOSI, MARIECLAIRE BIZZARRO, SARA FOLEGOTTO
In the context of the cultural projects promoted by Marmomacc in the Italian and European universities and at the Architects Day 2012 - organized by the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Slovenia - continues the commitment of Marmomacc Stone Academy for the training of architects, with a seminar on the use of natural stone in architecture and design.
Involved Matjaž Žigon, Vince Marazita, Andrea Angheben and Evelina Bazzo.
-Castelli in Aria- is a book series that will tell the stories of special projects, with first-hand accounts by the authors, comments by observers, documentation and pictures concerning the construction process in the De Castelli factories, to explain how these works were generated.
Copycat, the first publication of the book series, describes Cino Zucchi’s opera -invited by David Chipperfiled to the 13. Mostra Internazionale di Architettura della Biennale di Venezia- awarded with the Special Mention Golden Lion, outlining its main phases through texts and images, until the realization and installation into Corderie dell’Arsenale.
Copycat opera gives a body to the idea that formal cultures propagate through “contagious” processes which combine imitation and innovation, creating sequences of artefacts linked by subtle variations on a common theme.

After opening stores in Milan, Cologne, Stockholm and New York, Italian furniture manufacturer Arper has just opened its London showroom in Clerkenwell, which will become the company's new centerpiece in the heart of London's architecture and design district.
The showroom has been designed by 6A Architects, who focused on elegance and sensuality of form and avoided the superfluous. The space is a simple architectural unit constructed from different materials in shades of white, inserted into a concrete shell to make a singular backdrop for the furniture. Natural white plaster, bleached oak and enameled cast aluminum form a soft, finely crafted space open to the street on two sides. Finer details of the build — doors, ironmongery, skirtings — have been stripped back. The focus is on the relationship between space, light and furniture.
This space seeks to be more than a showroom — it is an Arper "experience" for architects, specifiers, designers and the public to learn more about the company and its ethos of open-ended and generous design. It has also been designed to be flexible, allowing it to play host to different types of events, through which Arper can communicate with its new London audience.
"London will be our flagship showroom across the world, more a brand embassy than simply a store. Clerkenwell is the perfect location for us as it has one of the highest concentrations of architectural and engineering companies in the world," said Claudio Feltrin, CEO of Arper. "And London is a dynamic hub of creativity, design and innovation, which has really inspired us."

Marmomacc, this unique event in the international panorama is scheduled again 26-29 September 2012 and is dedicated to natural stone, processing technologies, design and architecture.
Inclusion as of 2011 in the Gold Compass Award ADI collection is the most authoritative testimony of how Marmomacc's activities in the research and experimentation field with natural stone is by now an established landmark for sector experts, buyers and visitors. Such know-how is never merely for its own sake but, thanks to Marmomacc, always placed in relation with the production system to promote Italian design, universally renowned for its added value, all over the world. It is in this context that Marmomacc Meets Design, the crossways event embracing all halls, proposes its sixth topic: colour the basis for beauty is linked to applied environmental sustainability in stone furnishing projects. The Best Communicator Award also welcomes its sixth edition as the occasion for rewarding exhibiting companies that best convey the potential of marble and stone through their stand set-ups. With these objectives in mind, the 47th edition of Marmomacc dedicates again a entire to hall culture, Inside Marmomacc as the stage for many installations and design projects. Over and above the customary Marble Forum events, non-stop conferences, lectures, conventions and shows by Faculties of Architecture and Design.Recognition will also be ensured for students at Italian universities with the second edition of the Degree Thesis Award: Landscape, Architecture and Stone Design.
